Butterfield named Rotarian of the Year
Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club recently selected Roxanne Butterfield as their Rotarian of the Year.
This prestigious award is presented to a member of the club who has shown outstanding leadership in the community and who has exemplified “Service Above Self,” according to a news release. The recipient must have performed an outstanding Rotary service and current community service can also be considered.
According to the release, Butterfield “has truly been an inspiration to all in our club in her service and sacrifice to each of us and others in our community.” She has been a member of the club for three years and has been active in the scholarship, fellowship, and community enhancement committees.
As the chairwoman of the Community Enhancement Committee, Butterfield has managed and promoted two very successful food drives supporting The Salvation Army. She organized and recruited volunteers for the Salvation Army Bell Ringing and stopped by to encourage many of the volunteers throughout the month of December, the release said.
Prior to every meeting of the year, Butterfield sold raffle tickets, and developed and managed games to raise money at the club’s annual holiday party to help fund the club’s scholarship trust with more than $4,000. Outside of Rotary as President of Friends of Hot Springs National Park, a volunteer organization, Butterfield gathers the support of the park through advocacy and fundraising from programs and projects outside the normal National Park Service budget, the release said.
“As the President of ‘Friends of Hot Springs’ and as Chair of the Community Enhancement Committee, she recruited volunteers to clean up the National Park during the government shut down. The Sentinel-Record reported due to her leadership tourists were able to continue to enjoy our downtown Park area without any noticeable difference,” the release said.
According to the release, Butterfield exemplifies the four way test of the Rotarian in her interaction and service with fellow members of the community, and is well-deserving to be named this year’s HSNP Rotary Club Steve A. Turner Rotarian of the Year.
The Hot Springs National Park Rotary Club meets every Wednesday at noon in the Arlington Resort Hotel and Spa located in downtown Hot Springs.
