Maggie N. McClelland

ORANGE, Texas — Maggie Nell McClelland, age 86, of Orange, Texas, died Friday, Aug. 9, 2019.

She was born on Aug. 14, 1932, in Briggsville, Ark., the daughter of Calvin Cooper and Amy May Bolen Cooper. On Jan. 31, 1954, she married Vernon E. McClelland.

She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Orange, Texas. Maggie was born in a little community call Whitley. She often spoke of how tough it was when she was a little girl because of the Depression. After graduating high school, she worked at Westinghouse testing bulbs, she loved working there. After Vernon completed his military service, they moved to Orange, Texas, where they raised their four children. Maggie worked for Soloman Fabric until the store closed and then went to work for Palais Royal Department Store, where she worked for 32 years. She was loved by all of her co-workers and was considered one of Palais Royal’s best employees. Maggie played the piano at church for many years. She enjoyed many hobbies, but excelled at sewing and painting. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Bruce McClelland and Wayne and Denna McClelland, all of Orange, Texas; two daughters and one son-in-law, Debra K. McGrew and Bosco Haazan, of Trophy Club, Texas, and Bettye and Jack Elliott, of Orange, Texas; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; extended family members and many wonderful friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday in the Mount Tabor Baptist Church, Jessieville, with Brother Larry Haynes officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.

Interment will follow in the Mount Tabor Cemetery, Jessieville, under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Hot Springs.
