Lady Cobras down Ashdown on road

ASHDOWN — Fountain Lake sophomore setter Sophie Skinner finished with 48 assists and 14 service points to lead the Lady Cobras to a 3-1 win over Ashdown on the road Thursday.

The Lady Cobras (6-1, 2-1 3A South) battled from start to finish as Ashdown

(6-3, 1-3) kept with them in the first three sets. Fountain Lake took wins of 25-19 and 25-22 before it dropped the third, 2225. The Lady Cobras then dominated the fourth set 25-7 to secure the win.

Junior middle hitter Patience Campbell led the front line with four blocks,

12 kills and 14 service points. Classmate Presley Hamric also added 12 kills, and sophomore Landry Cate had 10 kills with nine service points, including three aces.

*Fountain Lake’s junior high also took a win over Ashdown. The junior Lady Cobras won 25-21, 25-22.

Lakeside ekes out win over Greenwood

Lakeside relied on its doubles and boys singles players to take a 5-3 win over Greenwood Thursday.

Senior doubles team Isabella Calhoun and Mary Catherine Cowen defeated Acosta and Pelt 6-2, 6-3, and senior Sydney Blount and freshman Elizabeth Cowen took a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Beshears and Harris.

In girls singles, junior Haley Fauber fell to O. Gaston 0-6, 1-6, and freshman Julia Malone lost her singles match 6-7, 3-6.

Freshman Ben Hollis took a 7-5, 6-2 win over Z. Beshears in boys singles while classmate William Ivy bested B. Hoskyn 6-2, 6-0.

Freshmen Greyson Cornelison and Walker Wood defeated G. Vaughn and M. Belue 6-0, 6-2. Junior Brooks Bell and freshman Griffin Gulley lost their doubles match to J. Mitchell and E. Butler 2-6, 2-6.

Lakeside will host its next match on Oct. 1 against Texarkana.

Junior Rams down LRCA

Lakeside battled down to the wire to take a two-set match from Little Rock Christian Thursday.

The junior Rams (10-2) won the first set 25-21, but the junior Lady Warriors forced extra points in the second with Lakeside winning 26-24.

Carsen Cordell led the team with six kills, 10 digs and an ace, Madi Bell Landry had four kills with six blocks and Claire Graham added four kills and three blocks. Kaitlyn Threadgill had four kills with two aces and 12 digs to lead the back line.

Olivia Porter had 10 assists and three kills, and Brooklyn Bourland had nine assists.

*Lakeside’s eighth grade team (4-2) went extra points in the third set but could not overcome Little Rock Christian, falling 25-21, 20-25, 15-17.

Lauren Foreman led the team with 14 service points with a pair of aces, and Lucy LaDuke had eight service points with an ace. Lyndsay Mehlin had three solo blocks, and Sabrina Bledsoe had two. Lakeside will take on Lake Hamilton Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Rams best Fair in three

Lakeside cruised to an easy 3-0 victory over the visiting J.A. Fair Lady War Eagles Thursday at Lakeside Athletic Complex.

The Rams won 25-5, 25-6, 25-2 to move to 8-1 overall and 5-1 in the 5A South.

Abbi Kinder led the team in service, tallying 20 straight serves in one set. Macy Landry served at 90 percent with five aces, Olivia Lawrence had eight aces while serving at 92 percent and Sarah Porter served at 92 percent while compiling five kills and five aces.

Maddie Trusty led the team offensivel­y with 19 kills and .643 hitting percentage, and Katie Ballard had six kills with a hit percentage of 750.

The Rams travel to Hot Springs Tuesday for ninth grade, junior varsity and varsity matches starting at 4:30 p.m.
