Firefighters battle strong winds
Firefighters from two fire departments battled strong winds coming off Lake Hamilton Friday to extinguish a fire that heavily damaged an unoccupied home at 150 Roadrunner Point.
The 70 West Fire Department said it received a call about the fire just before 11 a.m. “The caller advised they could see flames and smoke coming from a structure,” according to a news release from the department.
Seven firefighters from the department responded to the scene with an engine and pumper tanker.
“The first arriving unit advised flames were showing through the roof on the backside of the residence,” the release said.
The department requested asThe
sistance from Piney Fire Department, which sent four firefighters with a pumper tanker.
“Units battled strong winds funneling in off the surface of the lake initially but were able to get the fire extinguished,” the release said.
A photographer for The Sentinel-Record observed a Garland County sheriff’s deputy help the firefighters attack the fire at one point, until additional manpower arrived.
“The home was not occupied at the time of the fire, the caretaker for the property arrived later in the incident,” the release said, and CenterPoint Gas and Entergy confirmed the utilities were off at the residence.
LifeNet was also at the scene to standby for the firefighters, but no injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is not known at this time, the release said.
