- JAMES LEIGH

Hot Springs held Hope to just 76 yards in the first half as the Trojans routed the Bobcats 51-7 Friday night at Tommy J. Holt Memorial Field at Joe C. Reese Stadium.

The Trojans (3-1, 2-0 5A South) took advantage of two encroachment calls on a six-play, 59yard drive to find the end zone with just 2:35 off the clock in the opening quarter. Quarterback Isaac Shelor found James Dawson on a 19-yard toss for the score, but the kick was no good.

Hope (1-4, 0-2) was held to just four plays and 11 yards, thanks in part to an encroachment call against the Trojans, before punting the ball to the 2.

Carlos Brewer broke free on second and eight for a 51-yard gain before the Trojans had four big plays that led up to a 3-yard run by Malik Brewer into the end one with 3:10 to go, capping the 11-play, 98-yard drive. David Carter’s kick made it 13-0.

A three-and-out by the Bobcats turned into an extra long gain after a muffed punt was recovered by Hope, but the Trojans held the Bobcats back on the fake punt to take over at their own 45. The Trojans put together a pair of 18-yard plays, including an 18-yard run by Carlos Brewer into the end zone to make it 19-0 after another failed kick.

Carlos and Malik Brewer both had big plays on the Trojans’ next drive, including a 27-yard from by Carlos before Brewer caught an 19-yard toss from Shelor to make it 26-0.

Hope finally found its way into the end zone as quarterback Hunter Hellums found Davian Durden on a 19-yard pass to cap the eight-play, 74-yard drive to pull within 26-7 with 4:31 left in the half.

The Trojans made it 33-7 with 1:56 left on a 21-yard pass from Shelor to Malik Cooper after another successful kick, and Hot Springs added three more scores in the second half to set the final.
