Wolves cruise past Hall to stay unbeaten

- DAVID SHOWERS

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton scored on six consecutive possessions to mercy rule Little Rock Hall 42-12 and stay unbeaten Friday night at Bank OZK Field.

The sophomore backfield of Owen Miller and Tevin Woodley paced a Wolf attack that rolled up 296 rushing yards. Miller’s 158 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries led Lake Hamilton (5-0, 2-0 6A West). Woodley added 128 yards and two touchdowns on 12 carries.

The Wolves went up tempo on the final touchdown drive, going 77 yards in 13 plays against a worn out Hall (2-3, 0-2) defense. Junior quarterback Layne Warrick’s fourth down goal line sneak capped the drive and triggered the sportsmanship rule with 0:05 to play in the third quarter.

Hall’s offense was 2 of 10 on third down attempts and struggled to sustain momentum. Its nine possessions netted three punts, two turnovers, two turnovers on downs, two scores and

184 yards of total offense.

Dontevious Patterson’s 52 yard touchdown run in the final minute was one of the Warriors’ few bright spots.

Gavin Robbins’ interception thwarted the Warriors’ opening possession, and Caleb Smith’s sack knocked the Warriors out of Wolf territory on a drive that started at Lake Hamilton’s

36 midway through the second quarter.

Dawson Poindexter’s fumble recovery midway through the third quarter netted the second Wolves takeaway.

The Wolves scored on their final four possessions of the first half to lead 28-6 at halftime. A 33-yard completion from Warrick to Destin Rhodes on third down and 26 saved the third touchdown drive, setting up Woodley’s 19-yard touchdown run two plays later that put the Wolves ahead 21-6 with

3:08 to play in the half.

Rhodes secured the catch despite being closely defended and stacked against the boundary. It was the longest of Warrick’s four completions.

Woodley’s 75-yard run on the ensuing Wolf possession positioned Miller for the half’s final score, a 7-yard touchdown run on the power play Lake Hamilton ran to great effect throughout the night.

The Wolves outscored Hall in the first half despite running six fewer plays and having a 6:08 disadvantage in time of possession. The Warriors ran for 65 first half yards compared to Lake Hamilton’s 177 yards and converted only one of six third down attempts.

Their lone touchdown of the half came on a 12-play, 77-yard drive capped by senior quarterback Braelon Adams’ 5-yard touchdown run with 5:17 to play in the second quarter. Adams converted a short fourth down attempt to sustain the drive and found Patterson in a soft spot in the Wolf zone for a 20 yard completion that advanced Hall into Wolf territory.
