PENCIL BLUFF — Janice R. Sanders, age 72, of Pencil Bluff, formerly of Royal, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019.

She was born on Feb. 23, 1947, in San Fernando, Calif., the daughter of Clarence and Flossie Thompson. On Dec. 15, 1978, she was married to Jim Sanders. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Jimmy Thompson and Bobby Thompson; and three sisters, Billie Jo Wright, Dolores Hutto and Carolyn Gatlin.

Janice had been a member of the Pearcy Baptist Church for over 30 years where she was very active in the Operation Christmas Child program. After moving to Pencil Bluff, she moved her membership to Black Springs Baptist Church. She enjoyed arts and crafts, drawing pictures and wood burning. She also enjoyed driving around and seeing the sights, and, in earlier years, deer hunting. She loved children and worked as a substitute teacher at several of the local schools. Janice was known to always be there to meet another’s needs.

She is survived by her husband, Jim Sanders, of Pencil Bluff; her son and daughter-inlaw, Morry and Christy Sanders, of Black Springs; her daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and James Ryals, of Hot Springs; two sisters, Betty Ashley, of Hot Springs, and Patsy Morris, of Houston, Texas; her grandchild­ren, Hunter Sanders, Miah Millan, Taylor Wallace and Bailey Ryals; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. today at Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
