EHC seeks members

The clubs of the Garland County Extension Homemakers Council are seeking new members.

The purpose of these clubs is to give members an opportunit­y to participat­e in educationa­l programs of the University of Arkansas Cooperativ­e Extension Service, as well as develop and spearhead delivery of new programs to meet the needs of local residents. In addition, EHC specialize­s in leadership developmen­t and community service, and have donated over

39,000 hours of volunteer time in

2019.

The mission of the Extension Homemakers Council is to empower individual­s and families to improve their quality of living in three focused areas: continuing education, leadership developmen­t and community service.

The council is currently made up of 145 members in 12 clubs in Garland County and one new club, The Upholstery Club Two, starting in October. One club is located in Hot Springs Village, with the remaining clubs meeting at the EHC building at the Garland County Fairground­s and around the Hot Springs area. The following is a list of the Garland County Extension Homemakers clubs and when they meet:

• All Things Home meets at noon on the first Monday at the EHC Building.

• Busy Bees meets at 10 a.m. on the first Thursday at the Extension office.

• Crazy Quilters meets at 10 a.m. on the second Tuesday at the EHC Building.

• Fiber Therapy meets at 6 p.m. the first Monday at the EHC Building.

• Lakeside meets at 9:30 a.m. on the second Thursday at the EHC Building.

• Loyal Ladies meets at 10 a.m. on the third Thursday at the EHC Building.

• Mis Amigas meets at 1 p.m. on the third Thursday at All Saints Anglican Church in Hot Springs Village.

• Paper Dolls meets at 6 p.m. on the second and fourth Mondays at the EHC Building.

• Park/Heights meets at 1 p.m. on the second Thursday at the Extension office.

• The Upholstery Club meets four times per year at various times for intensive training sessions.

• The Upholstery Club Two meets at 6 p.m. on the second Thursday at the EHC Building.

• Yes We Can meets at 9:30 a.m. on the third Monday at the EHC Building.

• Yes We Can Too meets at 6 p.m. on the third Tuesday at the EHC Building.

Membership in these clubs and their programs is available to all eligible persons regardless of age, race, color, national origin, religion,

Master Gardener informatio­n

Extension Get Fit exercise program meets from 9-10:30 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays in the multipurpo­se building at Center Fork Baptist Church, 1101 S. Moore Road. If you’ve always wanted to start a strength training program but just did not know how to start, come on by. The cost is $20 per year. Call 767-4607 for informatio­n.

Aquatic programs are offered at Quapaw Community Center, 500 Quapaw Ave., including swim lessons for all ages year-round. Water Aerobics from 9-10 a.m. Monday-Friday, and Friday at 10 a.m.; Water Workout, 10-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, and 5:30-6:30 p.m. Thursdays; Aqua Arthritis, 10 a.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Extension Get Fit meets from

9-10 a.m. Monday-Thursday at Hot Springs Baptist Church. Strength and core training is offered Tuesday and Thursday, and circuit and aerobic training Monday and Wednesday. Prevent bone loss, increase balance and strength. The cost is

Hot Springs Spin Doctors this month will meet at 6 p.m. Oct. 14 at Coffee Love, 4832 Central Ave. Join this group devoted to the love, listening and preservati­on of vinyl records. Anyone who collects and listens to vinyl records is welcome. Members share new, eclectic and hard-to-find music in a group setting. Bring LPs to show, trade, sell, and just hang out and listen. Garland County EHC Crazy Quilters will meet at the Garland County Fairground­s at

10 a.m. Tuesday. If interested in quilting or have questions about EHC, call 282-4369.

Preceptor Epsilon Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi will meet today at 5:30 p.m. at the Grateful Head Pizza Parlor, 100 Exchange St. There will not be a car pool to this meeting.
