Seals earn top awards at meet

Emma Crowe and Noah Smith ended up winning the high-point awards for the Hot Springs YMCA Seals swim team last month at the Col. Smothers meet in Bryant.

Crowe, swimming in the 13-14 year old girls division, posted wins in the 50- and 100-meter freestyle, 50- and 100-meter backstroke and the 200-meter individual medley to win the division’s award. Smith, in the senior men’s division, won the 100-meter backstroke, freestyle, breaststro­ke and butterfly as well as the 200-meter IM for his award.

In the 10 and under division, Aubrey Schmitt took wins in the

100-meter freestyle and breaststro­ke and second in the 100-meter backstroke and butterfly and

200-meter individual medley. Lily Shields won the 50-meter butterfly and the 200-meter freestyle, was second in the 50-meter freestyle and took third in the

100-meter butterfly and 200-meter IM. Lily Cook won the 50-meter breaststro­ke, took second in the 50-meter backstroke and

100-meter breaststro­ke, third in the 100-meter backstroke and fourth in the 200-meter IM.

Emily Mays led the team’s 11-12 year old girls with a fourth-place finish in the 50-meter backstroke, sixth-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke and seventh in the 50-meter butterfly. Mikeala Moore was fifth in the 50-meter breaststro­ke and seventh in the

50- and 100-meter backstroke, and Haylie Miller was eighth in the

50-meter backstroke. Sawyer Headlee, competing in the 11-12 year old boys division, was third in the 50-meter backstroke, fourth in the 50-meter butterfly, fifth in the 50-meter breaststro­ke and eighth in the

50-meter butterfly. Abi Steele, the team’s only other competitor in the 13-14 girls division, was third in the 100-meter backstroke, fourth in the 200-meter IM, fifth in the 50-meter freestyle, seventh in the 200-meter freestyle and eighth in the 100-meter freestyle.

In the 13-14 year old boys division, Aidan Qualls posted wins in the 200-meter IM and 500-meter freestyle, second-place finishes in the 50- and 200-meter freestyle and a third-place finish in the

100-meter butterfly. Ethan Smith was second in the 100-meter freestyle and 200-meter IM, fifth in the 100-meter breaststro­ke, sixth in the 100-meter backstroke and seventh in the 100-meter freestyle.

Peyton Speas was second in the 50-meter breaststro­ke, fourth in the 50-meter butterfly and

200-meter freestyle and eighth in the 50-meter freestyle. Gavin Karm was third in the 50-meter breaststro­ke and seventh in the

50-meter backstroke and 100-meter freestyle, and Tristan Paullus was fifth in the 50-meter breaststro­ke and butterfly and eighth in the 100-meter freestyle.

Emma Campas was second

in the 50-meter backstroke in the senior women’s division, third in the 50-meter breaststro­ke and

100-meter backstroke and fifth in the 100-meter breaststro­ke. Hunter Speas, in the senior men’s division, was second in the 50-meter breaststro­ke, fourth in the 500-meter freestyle, fifth in the 100and 200-meter freestyle and sixth in the 100-meter breaststro­ke.

Centerpoin­t, Bismarck take 2nd, 3rd at state golf match

BLYTHEVILL­E — Centerpoin­t finished in second place with Bismarck taking third at the Class

3A boys state golf match at Blythevill­e Country Club last week.

The Knights turned in a 271 to finish second behind Baptist Prep’s 239, and Bismarck was third with a 276. Harding Academy was fourth with a 280, and Trumann was fifth with a 281. Baptist Prep’s Hagen Sanchez earned medalist honors with a 2-over 73, and Dumas’ Ben Famer was runner-up medalist with a 5-over 76.

Gabe Doster led Centerpoin­t with an 85, earning All-State honors. Kaden Owens shot a 90, Dillon Fox had a 96 and Kaden Horn finished with a 120.

Bismarck was led by Jacob Loy, who also earned All-State honors with an 86. Braden Efird shot an 88, Blake Smith a 102 and Logan Bubulka a 109.

Fountain Lake’s Zach Redifer also earned AllState honors with his 85, and Carson McCoy shot a

101 at the tournament.

Junior Rams down Sheridan at home

Lakeside hosted Sheridan in multiple junior high matches last week with the freshman squad moving to 16-5 overall and 4-0 in conference play.

The junior Rams took a 25-18, 25-21 win in the first match against the junior Lady Yellowjack­ets before winning the second match, 26-24, 25-7. Carsen Cordell and Madi Bell Landry led Lakeside with four kills and two blocks each in the first match, and Kaitlyn Threadgill led the team with seven service points and two aces, Wini Formby with six service points and an ace, and Lauren Foreman with five service points and two aces.

In the second match, Cordell had seven kills, two blocks and five digs, Landry and Claire Graham added five kills and two blocks each, and Olivia Porter had four kills, 10 assists and 13 service points with four aces. Brooklyn Bourland added 11 service points with four aces and seven assists, Threadgill added nine digs and two assists, and Kate Foreman had five digs and eight service points with three aces.

The eighth grade team (7-3) also took a two-set win, 25-23, 25-19. Audrey Divers led the team with

12 service points and three aces, and Formby and Foreman added five service points each with two aces for Formby. Sheridan won the second match,

25-18, 25-16.

*The freshman team also went 3-1-1 at the Morrilton Invitation­al on Oct. 12. The team defeated Pottsville (25-7, 25-10), Clarksvill­e (25-6, 25-11) and Lake Hamilton (25-24, 25-14), split with Morrilton

(23-25, 25-19) and lost to Bryant (22-25, 25-17, 13-15). *The freshman team also lost to Mena in a threeset match last week, 23-25, 25-21, 16-18. Cordell led the junior Rams with 11 kills, two blocks and three aces, Landry added nine kills and four blocks, and Graham and Porter had three kills each. Porter also had eight assists and eight service points, Bourland added nine assists, Threadgill had 10 service points and eight digs and Kennedy Brock had nine digs.
