Junior Wolves edge out junior Trojans

PEARCY — Lake Hamilton’s junior boys held off the Hot Springs junior Trojans in their season opener, 48-37.

Hot Springs (0-1) took an early 14-12 lead before the junior Wolves took a 24-19 halftime lead. Lake Hamilton (1-0) went on to outscore the junior Trojans 15-11 in the third quarter for a 39-30 lead going into the final frame.

Lake Hamilton was led by Zac Pennington with 17 points, Ty Robinson added 14, and K.J. McDaniel and Cooper Kindt added 6 each. Easton Hurley had 3 points, and Ben Varner 2 to round out the scoring.

Lake Hamilton will host Mena Thursday, and Hot Springs will travel to White Hall.

Lakeside routs Mount St. Mary

Lakeside took control of the game early as the junior Lady Rams cruised to a 60-18 victory over Mount St. Mary’s Monday night at Lakeside Athletic Complex in head coach Dominique Battles’ debut.

The junior Lady Rams (1-0) took a 23-6 lead in the opening quarter en route to a 35-9 lead at the break. Lakeside added 19 in the third while giving up just 4 points for a 54-13 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Newcomer Allie Pollock led Lakeside with 19 points and five rebounds. Point guard Amelia Rogers had 12 points with 6 assists, Kennedy Brock hit 3 3-pointers for 9 points, Riley Orr had 6 points and 9 rebounds, and Gracie Hardin added 6 points.

Lakeside will travel to Centerpoin­t on Thursday before hosting Malvern next Thursday.

Reddies jump to 20, 7 in region

ARKADELPHI­A — Henderson State moved up two spots to No. 20 in Monday’s AFCA Division II Coaches Poll and to No. 7 in the Super Region 3 rankings after a 38-31 win over Southern Arkansas Saturday.

The Reddies (9-1) outlasted the Muleriders 38-31 in a game that featured 38 combined fourth-quarter points to set up the biggest game of the season at 1:05 p.m. this Saturday against No. 5 Ouachita Baptist (10-0). A victory in the 93rd Battle of the Ravine would give Henderson a share of its fourth Great American Conference title and would end the rival Tigers’ bid for back-to-back unbeaten

regular seasons.

The top seven teams in Super Region 3, which includes the Great American Conference, the Mid-America Intercolle­giate Athletics conference, the Great Lakes Intercolle­giate

Athletic Conference and the Great Lakes Valley Conference, will advance to the NCAA DII Playoffs.

No. 5 Ouachita Baptist is ranked third in the region with No. 14 Harding in fourth.
