Check gun facts first

-

Dear editor:

Moms Demand Action,

If you want to talk gun control legislation, please make sure you have facts. Don’t tell a group that there are no background checks or that John Q. Public has machine guns. You also stated “anyone can order a gun online and get it.” Wrong. If I go online to order a gun or even win a gun, it has to be transferred to me via someone with a federal firearms license that ensures paperwork and background check are done correctly.

And no, the NRA is not in public schools raffling off guns. It is obvious that you have never stepped foot in a gun store or gun show to try and purchase a firearm. And you obviously do not know what is legal and what is not. Nor do you know the difference in types of firearms.

The problem is lack of respect for human life and unfortunately, we cannot legislate that or common sense. The party that is clamoring to confiscate our firearms advocates killing babies in the womb. Go figure. Do you just care about a life that is taken by a firearm or do you really care about life in general? Another issue that you refuse to acknowledge is that a common factor in many of the mass shootings is the use of psychotropic drugs. Many of these drugs have side effects such as causing homicidal or suicidal ideation. Now, that does not fit your narrative but it is a factor to consider. Don’t blame the weapon, blame the person.

Red flag laws you say. Well, what about due process? If you don’t like that your neighbor has firearms you report them for being a threat based on your not liking firearms. No due process; guns are removed.

Now my rights have been infringed on based on your bias when no threat was made.

Also, if you are talking to a group or a person and you don’t agree with the other side, please refrain from having a look on your face of utter contempt and hatred, nostrils flaring, or stomping away in anger. Body language speaks volumes. You may not have a weapon in your hand but based on the body language recently I would be terrified if you had a weapon in your hand.

We have laws on the books — we need to enforce those laws. We also need to have respect for human life. You blame the Republicans and the NRA for all of this but the real ones to blame for devaluing human life is the liberals. They advocate policies that weaken the family, encourage violence and physical altercations, and the killing of unborn babies. Sharon Parrett Hot Springs
