-

Rose LaNell Hall Smith, 90, of Hot Springs, Ark., died March 29, 2020, at Lake Hamilton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Born Oct. 25, 1929, in Buckville, Ark., she grew up in a tight-knit community of good neighbors, good humor, sacrifice and hard work, which had great influence on the fine lady she would become. She enjoyed a long, happy, fulfilling life, devoting herself to raising a family and enriching the lives of those who knew her.

The circle of life now complete, she joins her parents, Ralph and Geneva Hall; sister, Polly Rochelle; and her beloved husband, Donald E. Smith, in God’s heavenly embrace.

She leaves behind her daughter, Sandy Cravens (Chuck Smith), of Hot Springs; son,

Bruce Smith (Janet), of Welaka, Fla.; grandson, Sam Cravens (Trista), of Hagarville, Ark.; three beautiful great-grandchildren, Hanna, Aliya and Rance Cravens; nephew, Scott Keller (Debbie), of Fayetteville, Ark.; niece, LeAnn Maggioni (Paul), of Needham, Mass.; and several cousins.

LaNell retired from Arkansas Power and Light and became active in volunteer work at St. Joseph’s Hospital, where her cheerful nature, selflessness and hard work gave comfort to many. She was truly an angel to all who knew her. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many “heart” pillows for cardiac patients, clothes, quilts and samplers for family, and later crocheted lap robes for nursing home residents. She loved to knit and garden, and her large library of books attested to her love of reading. She especially loved adventure and was always up for a drive to places unexplored. Her smile and gentle nature were accompanied by a quick wit, keen memory, whimsical sense of humor and love of a good joke.

Her life was well lived in the service of others and she will be greatly missed by all. A celebration of life will be held when travel restrictions are lifted from the current global viral pandemic. The family requests that any donations made in her remembrance be to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. John Bond and nurse Julie Fisher for their years of care; the CHI Wound Care Center staff; the nurses and staff at CHI hospital Hot Springs; and finally to the wonderful nurses, aides and staff at Lake Hamilton Nursing and Rehabilitation for their loving, compassionate care.
