Downtown galleries open virtual door tonight during monthly Gallery Walk

-

For the first time in Gallery Walk’s 30-year history, downtown gallery owners are not opening their doors to the public tonight — instead, the monthly event is being held online.

Mary Zunick, executive director of the Hot Springs Area Cultural Alliance, which is coordinating the event, says participating galleries have created a three-minute-long video showing off art in their galleries, which will be posted on https:// hotspringsarts.org.

“People can sit at home with their own glass of wine” and enjoy the galleries while “doing social distancing,” Zunick told The Sentinel-Record recently.

Zunick said that the idea was inspired by Wednesday Night Poetry also going virtual during the coronavirus pandemic.

Among those participating is Justus Fine Art Gallery, which normally holds an opening reception for its monthly exhibit in conjunction with Gallery Walk, and will be hosting its April exhibit online.

The April show will include a feature on “trees” with work by Beverly Buys, gallery owner Dolores Justus, John Lasater, Linda Palmer, Charles Peer and Rebecca Thompson. A selection of Tony Saladino’s abstract paintings will also continue through the month of April, along with sculptures by Robyn Horn and Sandra Sell.

The virtual exhibit will be available for viewing beginning at 5 p.m. today and continuing through the month at http:// www.justusfineart.com and at http://www.hotspringsarts.org.

“I began hosting ‘tree exhibits’ during the month of April several years ago and even though I may skip a year now and then, the importance of trees to us as individuals, along with our communities and the entire world, remains a constant. Not only are they vital to our planet’s health, they are a source of comfort and renewal. During these uncertain times, they remain as reminders of the kinship we share with the natural world,” Justus said in a news release.

Justus Fine Art Gallery, 827A Central Ave., offers a wide range of original art including sculpture, paintings, ceramics, photography, and more by recognized artists. Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday and by appointment, however, due to the coronavirus restrictions, the gallery will only be open by appointment until authorized by the governor, the release said.
