Humbly grateful

-

Dear editor:

One of my favorite lines out of a movie is spoken by a father character to a suitor seeking to marry his beautiful and smart daughter. The father asks the young man: “Tell me, would you say you are humbly grateful or are you grumbly hateful?”

I for one am God-thanking grateful every day. When someone, such as employees, treat me well, I call or write to commend them. There are too many grumbly hateful people out there. I love to see employees get bonuses, become Employee of the Month or get promotions because of their goodwill toward customers.

No matter how many times I’ve been done wrong, I will not lose my joy. I am never getting bitter no matter what battles I have had to fight. My enthusiasm and joy are not a result of an easy life, that’s for sure. Maybe that is why even little kindnesses I so appreciate.

It is a miracle that I am here to say “thank you” to all who are working to keep our little city working. In the streets the city workers and affiliates are working hard in all kinds of weather and dangerous conditions. I know some people complain about streets blocked, or narrowed due to the men and the equipment, but they are keeping our gas, sewer and waterlines flowing. They are trimming and culvert cleaning and more. I am so grateful for these men that brave all conditions to keep our city working. There are so many unknown difficulties and unique problems that our city officials have to face. Mountains move and we have the underground spring water. I came here from a big city that did not have these challenges.

Many thanks to those who care and are dedicated to making our city work. It would be horrible if all these things you do were neglected. Please keep up the great job!

Thank you. I am humbly grateful.
