HSV Rotary connects through virtual meetings
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Hot Springs Village Rotary Club could not meet at Good Sam’s after early March. Under the leadership of club President John Weidert, though, “virtual meetings” were planned to keep club members connected with each other.
Beginning April 3, a few members have gathered each week at Weidert’s home in the Village. There, with participants maintaining proper distance, the downstairs area is turned into a TV studio. Larry Wilson is the videographer who not only shoots the hour-long meetings but also edits and prepares them for posting online, a news release said.
Jack Rueter shares the YouTube link via the club’s weekly e-newsletter that goes to all members. Also in the newsletter, Nancy Hendricks transcribes the proceedings of the virtual meeting for those who prefer to read about it.
Each week, Sally Jelinek provides a report on club members with health issues or in need of assistance. There is also a special Spotlight presentation in which selected club members tell about themselves and why they are Rotarians. On April 3, Jelinek spoke about her life in England and other locations around the world. On April 10, Dennis Cooper discussed his term as last year’s district governor for Rotary clubs all around Arkansas.
When the club is able to meet again in person, guests are always welcome at the Hot Springs Village club which normally meets in the Fireside Dining Room at Good Sam’s, 121 Cortez Road, Thursdays at 6:30 a.m.
