Mary Maggie Lou Duvall Harris was born July 5, 1930, to Mary Stanley Duvall and McKinley Duvall, the second of three children, was raised by her father after the passing of her mother when she was only

6 years old.

She was educated and graduated from the Historic Langston High School, where she was a member of the Drum and Bugle Corps. After graduation, she attended Brian’s Business College, where she majored in accounting and typing. She enjoyed working with the Langston School Alumni Reunion committee and was responsibl­e for the Show & Tell Room.

She was active in several social clubs, including the Junior Entre Nous Club, Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, the Moon Glow Club and was a sister of the Eastern Star’s. She worked in many different capacities, most notably, secretary at Harris Mortuary and as a lady attendant with the funeral services. She also worked at Oaklawn Race Track as a lady attendant and the mutuels window for over 20 years. Mary also had an early career with the National Baptist Hotel and later worked many years for Jack Van Berg. After many years of faithful service and great work ethic, Mary ended her work career as a former foster grandparen­t at the Langston Magnet School. Mary fondly recalled many times of preparing home-cooked meals for her family every day after working outside the home.

Those completing the journey before her include her aforementi­oned parents; her sister, Dorothy Moody, and her brother, Stanley Duvall; her beloved son-in-love, Herman Strickland, who passed on April

4, 2020.

She was the mother of five children: Lolita Lyn Slaughter, Karen Annette Ridley, Rhonda Ridley Strickland, Shauna Leontyne Harris and Maj. Albert McKinley Harris; six grandchild­ren and six great-grandchild­ren; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

A graveside service to remember her life will be held at noon on Friday, April 17, 2020, at Crestview Cemetery. A walkthroug­h visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. today, April 16, 2020, at the funeral home.
