Sweet tea, instead

-

Dear editor:

After reading Larry Bauer’s letter Monday, and Guy McDill’s previously, it’s obvious that no matter what Trump does, he will have a base of fervent supporters who simply don’t care. Larry said it’s just not a big deal to him that Trump, in the midst of a pandemic, used $45,000 worth of taxpayer money to rent golf carts. Larry must be wealthy; $45,000 is a lot of money to me.

Per the norm, Larry went on to attack several letter writers, then cited various examples of what he thought was behavior on the same level of Trump by Nancy Pelosi, Bill and Hillary Clinton, Rahm Emmanuel, and of course, Barack Obama. Funny, I went back just to make sure, and neither myself or the other writers ever mentioned those people. When you have nothing in the way of a credible defense of Donald Trump, the playbook is simple: Just throw out a bunch of Democratic names and allegations.

I do take issue with a couple of Larry’s assertions. He says Trump’s not a politician, just a leader who “speaks off the cuff.” I’m sorry, constant and repeated lying is not “off the cuff.” It’s simply constant and repeated lying. Nothing more eloquent than that. Using the power of your office to secure financial gain for yourself, your family, and your companies is not “off the cuff,” nor is it simply not being politically incorrect. It’s fraud, deceit, and criminal behavior. Simple as that.

As to my “morning cup of hate,” Larry, I drink tea. Sweet tea. And if you ever decide Trump’s Kool-Aid isn’t to your taste, come up to Mount Ida one morning and have a cup with me. Casey Alexander Mount Ida
