HSV Rotary continues ‘Service above Self’ despite pandemic
Due to coronavirus pandemic restrictions, the Hot Springs Village Rotary Club has not been able to meet since early March. However, despite the current situation, Rotarians continue to honor the club’s motto, “Service Above Self,” according to a news release from the club.
Rotarian Bud Hallinan coordinated the club’s participation in this year’s Village Clean-up on April 4. The event is a community effort intended to help keep Hot Springs Village beautiful by picking up trash along its roadways.
“We took a different approach this year with the coronavirus situation. Rather than just picking up trash on the designated date of April 4, we allowed our members to work their respective routes on any day that was convenient for them,” Hallinan said.
He said that Rotarians worked on Ponce De Leon Drive from the Balboa Gate to where it intersects DeSoto at the ReMax Center. They also covered Carmona Road from Barcelona to Fresno as well as Minorca Road from Cortez to Balearic.
A number of club members responded electronically, specifying their desired routes. However, other club members also participated on their own.
“We may have had others who just did it without telling me,” Hallinan said.
Those who signed up to participate were Villagers Charles Belt, Rick Custer, Bud and Kathi Hallinan, Clif Haygood, Phyllis and Leon Johannsen, Dave Merkel, Grover Scarborough, Bob Sweeten, and James Zahnd.
“We thank them and in addition, thanks to any folks I may have missed,” Hallinan said.
Rotary normally meets in the Fireside Dining Room at Good Sam’s, 121 Cortez Road, Thursday at 6:30 a.m. For more information about HSV Rotary or to access the club bulletin with a link to the current virtual meetings, visit http://www. hsvrotary.org or Facebook. com/hsvrotary.
