Former U.S. Army Maj. Brian Kilgore was promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Army Reserve in a March 11 ceremony inside the Pentagon, an event hosted by Stephen D. Austin, assistant chief to the Army Reserve.

A native of Hot Springs, Kilgore enlisted in 1997 in the Arkansas Army National Guard as an E-5, 11C/11B, Mortars and Infantryme­n, before commission­ing as a first lieutenant at Infantry Officer Candidate School in Fort Benning, Ga. in January 2002. He graduated from Garland County Community College in 1986 with an Associate Degree in Education and from Henderson State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education and a Minor Physical Education in December 1993, and from Grand Canyon University with a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice in January 2020.

He converted from the Arkansas Army National Guard as an infantry officer to an AGR logistic officer in the Army Reserve in 2013 as a major. His military schooling includes basic training, 11C/11B AIT, Primary Leaders Developmen­t, Infantry Officer Basic, Infantry Captain Careers, Anti-Terrorism Officer, RCAS USAR MPDV, Unit prevention Leaders, Operationa­l Contract Support, Reserve Component Sustainmen­t, Ordnance Branch Officer Qualificat­ion, and Intermedia­te Level Education for promotion to lieutenant colonel.

Kilgore has held a variety of command and staff positions, including platoon leader, Alpha Company,

1st Infantry Battalion, 15314 Infantry Regiment,

3rd BDE, 1st Cavalry Division, in Baghdad, Iraq, from 20032005, the Assistant S4 for the

1st Battalion, 153 d IN REG, executive officer for Bravo Company, 1 BN, 15314, commander for the 39th BSTB, assistant S3 for the 1-206th Field Artillery in Russellvil­le, commander of the Badging Company in Taja, Iraq, 2007-2008, commander of the 39th BSB, Alpha Company in Stuttgart, 2009-2011, S4 39th BSB in Hazen, 2011-2013, S3 for the 90th SUS BDE, 2013-2015, Commander of a COR team in Afghanista­n, 2015-2016. SPO for the 90th SUS BDE 2016 in North Little Rock, executive officer for the 90th STB, 2016-2017. Battalion Commander of the 90th Support Troop Battalion, 90th SB, in North Little Rock, January through May 2017. J4 for the MISTF-C PSYOPS unit in Qatar, 2017-2018, and currently he works in the G33 Operations at OCAR/PENTAGON.

Kilgore is a combat veteran of four deployment­s. The first one being during the war from 20032005

in Baghdad OIF II, where he was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, the second one

2007-2008 OIF V, the third being in Afghanista­n from 2015-2016 OEF where he was awarded the Bronze Star, and the last one being in Qatar 2017-2018, where he served in a Special Forces Unit.

Kilgore’s awards and decoration­s include the Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge Defense Meritoriou­s Service Medal, Army Commendati­on Medal with one Oak Leaf Clusters, Army Achievemen­t Medal with One Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Reserve Component Achievemen­t Medal with One Silver Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expedition­ary Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with M-Device, Overseas Service Ribbon, Iraq Campaign Medal with Three Bronze Stars, Afghanista­n Campaign Medal with one star, and numerous other campaign medals and ribbons.

Kilgore is married to the former Vickie Skelton and has one daughter, Lauren Kelcie Kilgore (Brown), son-in-law Steve Brown and one son, Landen Keith Kilgore. He is the son of Donnie and Eileen Kilgore, the son-in-law of Edward Skeleton and Sherry Skelton, older brother to Kevin Kilgore and brother-in-law to Kristen Kilgore.
