LH drops doubleheader to Sheridan
PEARCY — Lake Hamilton’s junior American Legion team could not get past Sheridan Friday night, dropping both halves of a doubleheader at Lake Hamilton Field.
The Yellowjackets took control early, putting up five runs in the top of the first, but Lake Hamilton managed to get one runner across the plate in the bottom half of the inning. Blane Shumate and Gabe Kuttenkuler crossed homeplate early in the second frame, while keeping Lake Hamilton scoreless before five more runs by Sheridan in the third.
Sheridan pitcher Brodie McElroy, Jarrett Atchley and Landen Kizer each scored runs in the top of the fourth inning as the visitors secured a 15-1 win.
Lake Hamilton generated a come-from-behind effort in the second game that kept both teams within reach until a sixth-inning push by Sheridan propeled the Yellowjackets to an 8-5 win.
Atchley put the Yellowjackets on the board first, but the Wolves answered with back-to-back runs behind Dalton
Pitts in the second frame and Zac Pennington in the third that gave the hosts a 2-1 lead going into the top of the fourth.
Sheridan’s Landen Feimster crossed the plate to knot the score before Lake Hamilton’s Ben Varner, Wyatt Wolf and Eden Fite scored in the fifth for a 5-2 lead.
Sheridan responded with six straight scores, putting the game away.
The Wolves tallied 7 hits with Wolf leading the offense with two hits while Fite added a double and Pennington, Daelyn Davis, Varner and Jaxon Karm each getting a hit. Hadyn Estrada reached twice on walks, and Pitts and Varner each had one.
Fite, Pennington, Pitts, Varner and Wolf each scored one run.
Ethan Brock gave up two runs while striking out two in four innings of work. Grant Bearden went 1 2/3 innings with a pair of strikeouts, and Fite struck out one batter in his partial inning.
Lake Hamilton is scheduled to host Bauxite Monday at 6 p.m.
