Altrusa holds annual birthday celebration in June
Although its annual birthday celebration is held in April, Altrusa International of Hot Springs Village Inc. rescheduled the meeting to June 4 at the Cortez Pavilion.
Past Presidents Joan Schoonover, Carol Heckert, Eyvonne Whipple, Teri LaBove, Diane Bielanski and Teresa Gewinner hosted the 16th meeting with bagged snacks including cupcakes instead of the annual cake.
After the social, the regular meeting included Doris Harder and Elaine Schroeder, from the Membership Committee, installing the 2020-21 officers: Sue Spurgin, president; Pam Avila, vice president; Bielanski, treasurer; Valerie Derryberry, secretary; Martha Smither, first year director; Mary Kramer, second year director; and Past President Teresa Gewinner.
The officers were given decorated face masks based on their board position made by Harder.
Spurgin announced the District Eight Awards, which would have been given out at the April District Conference that had to be held virtually. The HSV Club received First Place Communication Award, First Place Mamie L. Bass Award with their Comfort Kits for Sexual Assault Victims, Second Place Billie Jean Ward Fundraising Award for their “Fall into Fun Game Day” and Second Place Club Display Award.
Altrusa International recognized sponsors of new members with a enamel pin signifying the numbers sponsored. Spurgin presented the pins to Bielanski, Derryberry, Heckert, LaBove, Schoonover, Elaine Schroeder and Carole Thompson. Committees also worked on their strategic plan for 2020-21.
