CSDIW announces publication of lineage book
State Governor Mary-Reid Warner, Continental Society Daughters of Indian Wars, recently announced the compiling and publication of the second volume of CSDIW members’ ancestors’ biographies.
The 34-page book is self-published by the society for the use of its members. Volume 1 was compiled by Jean Pollard and Marjo Dill, now deceased.
“It has been a learning experience and a joy to work on this project. We have some outstanding predecessors who contributed to the development of our nation. Each story is unique, and we can be proud of their accomplishments. I am very pleased with this effort and hope it will be enjoyable and useful for others,” said Warner, the compiler.
She acknowledged Nell White, Jordan Reid Silverboard, Sheila Beatty-Krout and Teresa Clark for their assistance, as well as the members who contributed the biographies of their ancestors.
During her administration, Warner has emphasized the continuation of Arkansas Society’s support of Native American education and recognition of proven Native American ancestry. Under her administration, all members of CSDIW who can prove Native American ancestry will be given the distinction of “Native American Heritage Member,” the release said.
“Warner’s objective is to recognize those who have American Indian ancestry but may not be a member of any tribe,” it said.
CSDIW assists and encourages the preservation of records and historic sites associated with native and immigrant American ancestors. It contributes to Bacone College, the Indian College in Muskogee, Okla., and the Sequoyah National Research Center in Little Rock. SNRC holds the world’s most comprehensive collection of American Indian, Alaska Native, and First Nations newspapers, periodicals, and other publications, the release said.
Membership in CSDIW is open to women 16 years of age or older. Eligible candidates must prove lineal descendant of a native or immigrant American ancestor who participated in any capacity in actual hostilities, or in any other activity with each other, between 1607-1900. CSDIW meets in February and August with the United States Daughters of 1812 and the Dames of the Court of Honor.
