Crystal Chimes holds virtual rehearsals
HOT SPRINGS VILLAGE — Members of The Crystal Chimes Chorus are holding virtual rehearsals using the Zoom teleconferencing platform during the COVID-19 pandemic to prepare for their annual Cocoa, Cookies and Carols holiday show in December.
“This virtual rehearsal space is working out pretty well,” the group said in a news release. Every Tuesday, at their regular rehearsal time, the chorus is gathering virtually. On any given week, most, if not all, of the chorus is in attendance, and they have even been joined by a prospective new member.
“They are watching/listening and singing with a variety of videos … virtual skill-building warmups, and educational videos on a variety of subjects. Using learning CDs, they are singing the songs they are currently working on and will be starting some new ones, in anticipation of having their popular Cocoa, Cookies and Carols holiday show in December,” the release said.
“When the ladies are actually singing, they have to mute themselves. Because their devices all have different speeds and bandwidths, it would be ‘vocal chaos’ if everyone could be heard at once. This is the hardest part about rehearsing virtually. There is also time for the mics to be turned on, so we can visit and catch up with each other,” it said.
The Crystal Chimes is the Village’s Sweet Adelines chorus — a group of ladies singing four-part a cappella harmony, barbershop style.
This year is a “very important year” for the Village, Sweet Adelines and the Chimes, according to the release. “The Village is 50, Sweet Adelines is 75, and the Chimes are 30!” The group is “all looking forward to the day we can celebrate together.”
