Suspect in drive-by, carjacking arrested

- STEVEN MROSS

A homeless man sought on multiple felony warrants stemming from a drive-by shooting last month and a carjacking that occurred a week later was arrested Monday morning.

Ronald Keith Lenox Jr., 19, who lists “city streets” as his address, was taken into custody in the 200 block of Main Street shortly after 10:30 a.m. and charged with two counts of committing a terroristic act, each punishable by up to life in prison, robbery, punishable by up to 20 years, and theft of property over $5,000, punishable by up to 10 years.

Lenox remained in custody Tuesday on zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit on the drive-by shooting, on June 13, around 11:30 p.m.,

Hot Springs police responded to a residence in the 300 block of West St. Louis St. regarding shots fired.

Officers spoke to a man who said he was sitting in his vehicle, a blue 1999 Honda Accord, when a tan or gold passenger car approached traveling west and the driver, whom he recognized as Lenox, pointed a handgun at him and fired four times before fleeing the scene.

Officers spoke to a woman who said she was inside her residence nearby when she heard several shots. She said she looked outside and saw a tan passenger car with a broken rear window westbound on West St. Louis.

Officers noted the rear window of the man’s Accord was broken out and there was a bullet hole in the driver’s side fender. A white 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck that was parked in the driveway also had a bullet hole in the passenger side door and a third bullet hole was found in a second-floor window at the front of the residence.

On June 30, Detective Mark Fallis spoke again with the female witness and she reportedly stated it was Lenox she had seen shooting from the tan passenger car.

According to the probable cause affidavit on the robbery and theft, on June 21, around 1 a.m., a local man reported the theft of his blue 2014 Dodge Journey, valued at $6,439, from the area of Albert Pike Road and Pinewood Street.

The man told police a male passenger, who was unknown to him, had forced him out of his vehicle and then left in it without his permission.

A woman who witnessed the incident stated she was at McClard’s BBQ, 505 Albert Pike, when she saw the victim, who was not known to her, pull into the parking lot of AutoZone, 410 Albert Pike. She then saw her cousin, identified as Lenox, get out of the back seat of the car.

She said Lenox walked across the street to speak with her briefly while the man in the Journey “drove around in the area.” The man pulled into a parking lot nearby and Lenox returned to the vehicle. She said she saw Lenox open the driver’s door, pull the man out of the car, and then get in the car and drive away.

After further investigation, warrants for Lenox were issued on July 1 for the terroristic act, robbery and theft charges.

According to court records, Lenox lists no prior felony history but had pleaded guilty in district court on Dec. 17, 2019, to a misdemeanor charge of fleeing in a vehicle. He was sentenced to one year in jail, with all but two days suspended, at least 12 months of probation and ordered to pay $660 in fines and court costs.
