GLENWOOD — Darrell Joe “Buster” Wright, of Glenwood, passed from this life on Dec. 15, 2020, at the age of 86.

He was born Aug. 20, 1934, in Glenwood, to Joel Schooley Wright and Loretta Cornelia “Retter” ( Grant) Wright. Buster was married to Dorothy Ann ( Haggard), who preceded him in death.

Buster is survived by his sons: Charles “Doug” Wright of Glenwood and Danny Wright of Gallatin, Tenn. He is survived by his six grandchild­ren, Laura Cummins, Delaney, Seth, Jacob, Sarah Grace, Jessica, and great- granddaugh­ter, Addalyn. He is survived by his brothers, Joel Wright of Glenwood and Don Wright of Magnet Cove.

The youngest of 11 children, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Myrtis Tidwell and Hazel Lee Montgomery, and his brothers, Sterlin, Myrkle, Lester, Hershel, Cloyd, James T. ( J.T.) and Haskel.

He was a Korean War veteran serving in the United States Navy, a graduate of Caddo Gap High School, and attended New Mexico State University. A union carpenter by trade, he spent his working years as a home builder, cabinet- maker, commercial constructi­on superinten­dent and instructor with the Job Corps. His occupation resulted in countless lifelong friendship­s. He was a deacon in Baptist churches in New Mexico and Arkansas; most notably New Galilee Church in Amity, Landmark Church in Mount Ida and Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Glenwood. Buster was a committed churchman and well known for his great passion for missions, missionari­es and Christian literature.

Visitation with the family is set from 5- 7 p. m. today, Dec. 18, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church in Glenwood.

A funeral service is set for 2 p. m. Saturday, Dec. 19, at Bethel Missionary Baptist Church with a graveside service to follow at Mount Tabor Cemetery with Brother Keith Shewbart officiatin­g.

Pallbearer­s are James Montgomery, Neal Wright, Walt Connell, Tom Wright, Matt Baker and Paul Baker. Honorary pallbearer­s are the deacons of Bethel Missionary Baptist Church, Howard Kemp and Don Baker.

Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Davis- Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
