Man ‘covered in insulation’ charged with alleged residential burglary

- STEVEN MROSS

A local man was arrested on felony charges Saturday for allegedly breaking into a house after the resident and Hot Springs police found him nearby “covered in residential insulation.”

Michael Loyd Tucker, 29, who lists a Walnut Valley Road address, was taken into custody shortly before 3 p. m. and charged with residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and theft of property, punishable by up to six years.

Tucker, who also had a warrant for failure to comply, was being held on a $10,000 bond and was set to appear Monday in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after

2:30 p.m. Saturday, officers responded to a residence in the

700 block of Mill Creek Road to a burglary that had already occurred.

The renter of the residence stated someone had broken in and officers soon determined entry had been made through a kitchen window, which was broken out, and the interior of the house “appeared to have been torn apart.”

All the doors inside were open and an outdoor storage room door was also broken open. The victim noted the only things missing were about $280 worth of food and a record player.

After the owner of the residence arrived, he determined that about $ 1,000 worth of electrical wire had been removed. He also estimated the damages to the window and door at $300 total.

Officers left the scene to go complete the report, but returned just a few minutes later after the resident discovered a man, later identified as Tucker, behind the adjacent property who was “covered in residential insulation.”

The resident said he asked Tucker if he broke into the home and Tucker allegedly replied, “Yes, I did break into your house.” When officers spoke to him, he reportedly again admitted to breaking in.

According to court records, Tucker lists no prior felony history, but he pleaded no contest on July 20, 2020, in district court to misdemeanor counts of third-degree domestic battery and possession of a controlled substance, marijuana, and was sentenced to one year in jail, with all but 42 days suspended, and placed on 12 months’ probation.
