A Pine Bluff man on parole who was being sought on misdemeanor theft warrants out of Hot Springs was reportedly found early Friday passed out behind the wheel of a stolen car parked at a local convenience store.

Miguel Antonio Colon, 50, was taken into custody shortly after 7 a. m. at the Dodge

18 of second-degree forgery and sentenced to seven years in prison, but he was given credit for time served in jail since his arrest on the charge on July 20, 2019.

According to the probable cause affidavit on the theft by receiving charge, at around 7 a.m. Friday Hot Springs police responded to the Dodge Store for a welfare check on a man in the parking lot “slumped over the wheel” of a black GMC SUV.

A check of the license plate revealed the vehicle, valued at

$15,000, was reported stolen out of Pine Bluff on Dec. 15.

Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Colon, and after it was confirmed the vehicle was stolen by checking the vehicle identification number he was taken into custody.

According to the affidavits on the theft charges, on July 14, 2019, Colon allegedly went in the Walmart Neighborhood Market, 1544 Malvern Ave., and stole a box of nicotine gum. He returned about an hour later and returned the gum for a refund and received a Walmart gift card which he used to buy several items and then also allegedly stole a Lasko fan before leaving.

Colon allegedly returned to the store on July 19 and stole two boxes of Equate nicotine lozenges. He returned about 30 minutes later and got a refund for one box of lozenges and then stole a case of beer before leaving. During the second incident, Colon provided the store clerk with his Arkansas ID while processing the fraudulent return.
