Acronyms abound

Dear editor:

I believe Mr. Cherry’s letter of Dec. 22 is the most negative of all those folk who have written claiming an election of fraud. It is sad that he cannot, in a season of joy and hope, find something good to say about the political change coming in a few days.

Instead, his missive of fear and dread, full of half-truths and some plain misinformation, is a terrible way to begin a new year and a new hope away from the chaos of the last four. His claim that the new administration will “defund the police” defies a declaration of Mr. Biden that he does not agree with that cry of a few newer Demos in Congress. His claim of anarchy falls flat in view of the near anarchy of the last four years. His charge of Biden buying judicial appointments is ludicrous in light of all the questionable appointments our current president has made. His claim of “Congressmen cavorting with spies” is especially strange when one considers our current president being such a pal to Putin and Kim Jong of North Korea and other dictatorial leaders. And Mr. Biden’s ties to Russia? Really now! Mr. Trump has no ties to Russia? That is obvious even to the least political person!

Now, I could create an acronym for Republicans in Congress as Mr. Cherry has done for Democrats, e.g., ReplacingEverPracticalUnityBesidesLettingIllegal- CommitmentsAndNegativesStand — but I remember that several GOP in Congress have recognized that time has come for accepting election defeat in a manner that shows character. In a time of celebrating the birth of a baby who came into the world to bring real joy — lasting joy — it is a time for forgiveness and acceptance and a time to count the blessings that our great nation can remain a light house of hopes and dreams of justice for all.
