There’s a lot to look forward to in 2021

- David Smith

I can’t remember the last time I stayed awake for the arrival of a new year, but I’m thinking about making an exception this year. I want to experience the first moment I can say “2020 is over.”

In anticipation of 2021, I surveyed members of the Levi Hospital staff with this question: “What are you looking forward to in 2021?” Here are some responses:

“I am looking forward to less fear. As the vaccine continues to be administered and becomes widely available, I believe that we will start the process of letting go of the fear and anxiety that we have been carrying around since March of this year.”

“I look forward to a little freedom. There are days I feel I have been held hostage by this virus. I am hoping that with widespread vaccination, I can go back to popping in and out, visiting people and places that I have avoided in 2020.”

“I’m looking forward to vacation. I want to travel, unplug, and unwind. I haven’t done that in a while.”

“I am looking forward to spending time with family and friends in whatever way that we can — hopefully getting together more.”

“I look forward to not having to use the word ‘surreal’ so often.”

“I look forward to not having to ask people to repeat themselves because I can’t see their mouth when they talk.”

“I look forward to seeing my extended family. It’s been very hard without our family get-togethers.”

“I look forward to getting back to my normal activities, such as going out to eat, my hobbies, and — of course — shopping.”

“I’m looking forward to getting rid of the mask!”

And, finally, “I am looking forward to new blessings and new beginnings with family and friends.”

We have a lot to look forward to. May your 2021 be blessed.
