Dealing with life’s curveballs

- M.J. Sherer

Well, here it is — Christmas 2020! Time sure has a way of getting away from us during the holiday season. Remembering back to my childhood when Christmas was spent with my grandparents and all my cousins along with my siblings in Long Island, N.Y. Then we moved and it became just my parents and my siblings in this beautiful little town of Hot Springs.

I was 16 when we moved here and the years have flown and life has thrown some curveballs for sure. Life has a way of writing its own book and none of us truly know how it will end … we just adapt. In 1983, my little brother, Bill, at the age of 19 passed away which nearly destroyed my parents … then in 2011, my brother, Joe, at the age of 53 passed then in 2016 my sister at the age of 64 passed, which left me an only child, which was extremely hard because I watched my parents as they lost three children and it became apparent it was just the three of us.

Yes, life has a way of throwing curveballs. My father, along with Rita Hurst, started Superior Senior Care in 1985 with the first office in Hot Springs and now 22 throughout the state. I came to work June 1, 2013, and quickly learned my heart held a special place for seniors … and caregivers! I absolutely loved being able to help keep loved ones at home and was actually very good at it along with a great staff.

Then the unthinkable happened! I lost my mother on Dec. 28, 2019, which devastated me and changed my life forever. then my father passed May of 2020, so now I need to rethink my path. I have loved every minute of every day and will miss clients and caregivers but with this being the last senior scene I will share with you please always remember how short life is and remember, especially during the holidays, to hold on tight to your loved ones and say “I Love You” a lot!

I hope you will continue to give Superior Senior Care a chance to help you keep your loved ones at home and keep my fathers legacy alive … Thank you all from the bottom of my heart! Until we meet again … Merry Christmas to all! And God Bless!

This time of year can be taxing on even the most resilient individuals and organizations.

It is a blessing to be part of a resilient work team.
