Resilience at work

- Kelly Rice

We who work in hospice choose to wear our Hospice Home Care badge every day. There are so many of us who have been with this team for six, eight and more years of service. Several have been with the team for 20 years or more! We all choose where we want to work and dedicate our skills.

There is a formula for our successful team.

First, we know our mission and purpose. We strive to add life to each and every day. We share the benefits of

Palliative Care and Hospice with hundreds of contacts each week and we provide over 500 copies of Five Wishes weekly to our community.

Next, we nurture a positive view of each associate and team. Every team member and every discipline make a difference. Having a customized Develop and Distinguish program for career advancement for each position demonstrates we value our team. Meeting weekly with our teams to develop and improve care planning and establishing best practices is part of our culture.

We take positive action. In doing good for others; our patients, families and communities’ benefit from the resources we share, especially through our volunteer programs.

Treating problems and challenges as a learning process allows freedom to learn and grow. We face difficulties with the determination to neither blame, regret nor be indecisive.

We don’t make drama out of a crisis because we understand that whether we are on top of the world or at the bottom, “this too shall pass.”

We look for opportunities to Celebrate Success. Shout outs, employee recognition, celebrating the joys of living and caring for others is one of our values.

We truly cherish the support and interaction we share as a team. We “start our week strong” with prayer and devotions Monday morning and we recognize needs and pray for our team each and every day.
