- STEVEN MROSS

A patient at National Park Medical Center was arrested Monday morning on a felony assault charge and multiple misdemeanor counts after she allegedly threatened to kill hospital staff, covered herself in feces and fought with Hot Springs police.

Sara Ann Blackmon, 35, who lists a Malvern Avenue address, was taken into custody at NPMC,

1910 Malvern Ave., shortly before

9 a.m. and charged with a felony count of aggravated assault against a law enforcement officer, punishable by up to six years in prison, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, disorderly conduct, obstructing government operations and criminal trespass.

She remained in custody Tuesday in lieu of a $5,250 bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 8:30 a.m., HSPD Officer Cash Murray responded to the hospital regarding a woman, later identified as Blackmon, standing on furniture and “threatening to throw her own feces at staff.”

Blackmon was reportedly upset with the staff but was eventually calmed down and agreed to behave for her stay.

About 20 minutes later, Murray was called back to the hospital because Blackmon had been discharged, but was refusing to leave. He reportedly found her sitting on the floor in the hallway and had “smeared fecal matter on herself.”

Murray ordered her to leave multiple times, but she reportedly refused and told him she had covered herself in feces “in an effort to dissuade police officers from touching her.”

Murray attempted to place her in custody, but she allegedly actively resisted by pulling her arms underneath her and kicking. She had to be wrestled onto her stomach and her arms forced behind her back.

“The arrest was made all the more difficult by the presence and transfer of the human feces on her person,” the affidavit notes. Blackmon also allegedly continued to scream and yell, drawing the attention of other patients and staff.

While being placed into the police unit, Blackmon allegedly continued screaming and threatened to kill hospital staff.

The staff provided the name Sara Blackmon, but she refused to provide any information to identify herself. Once at the jail, she was identified as Blackmon through her driver’s license photo.
