about for the school districts to have an opportunity to help those in need,” Owen said.

“I think we’re serving two very great purposes, with the Oaklawn Foundation scholarship program,” she said. “We’re very proud that Oaklawn continues, even at a time when the economy is so bereft in so many things that they are still sending us money to contribute toward this scholarship fund, and it helps. It’s a wonderful thing for us to be able to do that for the community.”

The Oaklawn Foundation Scholarship Committee meets three times a year and continues to work on programs, qualifications and applications to attract all sorts of students and make them feel they have as much opportunity as anyone else.

“Our scholarship committee is composed of educational people throughout our school districts … and so we have a very diverse committee, very diverse in age, very diverse in qualifications,” Owen said. “It is a time- consuming process.

We’re doing the evaluation to make this a program for our county to have great success in it. I’m very proud of everybody that participates.”

“The Oaklawn Foundation’s dream is to make our scholarship program the very best that it can be for the community that we serve. I thank Oaklawn for making sure that dream can come true,” she said.
