Man charged with alleged attack on his pregnant girlfriend
A Little Rock man was arrested early Thursday on a felony battery charge after allegedly attacking his pregnant girlfriend at her residence in
Hot Springs.
Hipolito Serrano-Mendoza, 33, who lists no prior criminal history, was taken into custody shortly after 12: 30 a. m. at his girlfriend’s
Gaines Avenue residence and charged with third-degree domestic battery, classified as a felony because the victim is pregnant and punishable by up to six years in prison.
Serrano-Mendoza remained in custody Thursday on a zero bond and a hold was also placed on him by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.
According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before
12:30 a.m., Hot Springs police Officer Corbin Rideout responded to the residence regarding a battery and made contact with the girlfriend who stated between
11:30 p.m. and midnight Serrano-Mendoza, who is the father of her children, began hitting her in the face.
She said he got agitated with her because he “didn’t like the way she was treating their child.” She said he struck her four to five times, causing her to have a busted lip and a scar on the side of her right eye.
She said she picked up their baby and attempted to walk away and Serrano-Mendoza kicked her in the back of the leg.
The victim told police she is pregnant and Serrano-Mendoza is aware of her condition. Rideout located Serrano-Mendoza inside the residence and took him into custody without incident.
A lethality assessment form was filled out and a Laura’s Card for victims was issued to the girlfriend at the scene.
