COVID-19 UPDATE
As a service to our readers, The Sentinel-Record publishes updates released by the city of Hot Springs and the state of Arkansas.
The following stats were posted Thursday on the Arkansas Department of Health website:
• 200,531 cumulative confirmed cases, up 2,277 from Wednesday.
• 1,963.86 rolling seven-day average of new confirmed cases, up 62.86 from Wednesday.
• 2,129,230 PCR test reports, up 11,538 from Wednesday.
• 9.4% cumulative PCR infection rate, no change from Wednesday.
• 45,385 cumulative probable cases, up 1,046 from Wednesday.
• 19.5% cumulative antigen infection rate, no change from Wednesday.
• 25,984 active confirmed and probable cases, up 892 from Wednesday.
• 215,980 recoveries of confirmed and probable cases, up
2,406 from Wednesday.
• 1,326 hospitalizations, up five from Wednesday.
• 218 cases on a ventilator, up one from Wednesday.
• 427 ICU admissions, no change from Wednesday.
• 3,273 confirmed deaths, up
21 from Wednesday.
• 653 probable deaths, up four from Wednesday.

• 970 cumulative probable cases in Garland County, up 30 from Wednesday.
• 233 active probable cases in Garland County, up 14 from Wednesday.
• 139 confirmed deaths, no change from Wednesday.
• 25 probable deaths, up one from Wednesday.
More than 100 confirmed cases were reported for a thirdstraight day Thursday in Garland County, pushing the rolling seven-day average to a peak for a fourth-straight day. Thursday’s
78.86 average was 45% higher than Sunday’s moving average.
The average is 163% higher than the county’s summer peak and 48% higher than its fall peak. The more than 130 new confirmed and probable cases reported Thursday put the county in the top five for new infections for the second time in three days.
The county’s active confirmed cases peaked for a third-straight day. The county’s cumulative polymerase chain reaction infection rate has risen
10% since Christmas.
The Health Department reported that the state had received 169,625 vaccine doses as of Thursday, with 58,914 doses given. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported that as of Wednesday 17.3 million doses of Pfizer and Moderna’s messenger RNA-based vaccine have been delivered nationwide, about 85% of the 20 million the federal government promised by the end of 2020.
The CDC reported 5.3 million first doses of vaccine have been given, with more than 500,000 going to people in long- term care facilities. The agency reported as of Wednesday 1.4% of Arkansas’ roughly 3 million people had been given the first shot of vaccine. South Dakota and West Virginia had the highest percentage, giving the first shot to 3.5% of their residents.
The state’s rolling seven-day average of new confirmed cases peaked for a third straight day Thursday, with the 2,277 new cases replacing the 1,837 reported the previous Thursday. Hospitalizations peaked for the third time in four days and active confirmed and probable cases peaked for a third-straight day.
