Rein in social media

-

Dear editor:

As the “Trump Show” is about to have its series finale, canceled four years in, it’s very obvious our reality star is upset. We all heard about stars throwing fits on set but this one has takes the cake!

But I digress. I read the papers, watch the news, and they keep asking the same question: Where did this divide come from in our country? The answer is pretty simple: social media.

Not so “social” media is to blame. It’s like giving a bullhorn to that one relative no one likes but you have to invite them to the family functions anyway and pull their finger. Americans get on these sites and act like complete idiots.

Both sides of your little political gang war say some of the dumbest things. Some of the things you come up with are so dumb you could probably have a TV show where they just read social media posts. You have the right talking about “the steal” — you can’t steal something no one owns. With the electoral college, an outdated, foolish way to vote in modern times, your vote doesn’t count if you live in certain states. If you live in a red state and vote Democrat, you might as well throw your vote in the trash. Same for Republicans in blue states.

You talk about microchips in the vaccines, while typing and sharing that message on a cellphone that tracks and listens to everything you say. While the site you use is advertising that thing you want and talked about to whoever yesterday and you don’t question that?

The other side isn’t better. Cancel culture and politically correct mumbo jumbo are ridiculous. It seems if someone breaks wind they must apologize and write an essay about how sorry they are. Why should someone answer to you about what they did 20 or 30 years ago? What business is it to anyone on social media? Why does a movie from 80 years ago need to be banned because, OMG, they said the “n-word”? You can’t rewrite history as much as you really want to.

Also, given the right condition, both sides will riot as we have seen … yet nothing is going to change. That’s the funniest part to me. Both sides honestly think you will change anything. None of you hold the purse strings to these politicians to get them to change a single thing. So you bicker and fight on social media.

It’s time for social media to be monitored and controlled by the FCC, because it’s obvious Americans are way too stupid to use it correctly and need a babysitter. And that’s why we can’t have nice things.

As far as I’m concerned, I’m going to continue to watch and read and laugh at all of you. Because 2020 was probably the best episode of America ever. And none of you learned a thing.
