LS jr. boys take pair from Cabot South

Lakeside’s eighth- and ninthgrade boys basketball teams took a pair of wins on the road Thursday night.

The eighth-grade boys took a 40-36 win over Cabot South, led by Sloan Hayes with 12 points. Ty Braziel added 9, Sam Trusty had 8 and Luke Lumsden had 6.

The freshmen boys (12-4) won 51-41. A.J. Howard led the team with 21 points, Skylar Purifoy added 19, and Braylen Russell had 10.

The teams host Hope Monday.

COLLEGE WOMEN Lady Bisons 64, Cotton Blossoms 51

SEARCY — Harding jumped out to a great start before struggling in the second quarter, but a strong finish helped the home team down Arkansas-Monticello at Rhodes-Reaves Field House Thursday night.

The Lady Bisons (2-2, 2-2 Great American Conference) held the Cotton Blossoms (1-3,

1-3) to just a single field goal in the first 10 minutes to take an

18-2 lead into the second quarter. UAM shot 50% from the field in the quarter to pull within 28-21 by intermissi­on.

Harding turned to its inside game in the second half, using post players Sage Hawley and Jessievill­e grad Kellie Lampo to secure the win. Hawley led the

Lady Bisons with 18 points, 13 rebounds and four assists while Lampo boasted 15 points and eight boards. Carissa Caples added 13 points and eight rebounds for Harding.

UAM had just one player in double digits. Mackenzie Tillman led the team with 13 points, seven rebounds and three assists. Dezirae King, Taylor Flores and Aeryn Hawkins added 8 points each for the Blossoms.

Harding hosts Arkansas Tech Monday at 5:30 p.m. UAM travels to face the Golden Suns today at 2 p.m.

COLLEGE MEN

Boll Weevils 77, Bisons 66

SEARCY — Harding got off to a good start, but UAM outscored the home team 52-34 in the second half to take the win at RhodesReav­es Field House Thursday.

Miles Daniels scored 19 of his

28 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers, to help UAM recover from a 32-25 halftime deficit. The Weevils shot just

29% in the first half.

The two teams traded baskets early before the Weevils knotted the game with 12:50 to play, taking their first lead since leading 8-5 with 5:09 off the clock in the first half. Daniels hit his first trey of the second half to give UAM the lead, 47-44.

The two teams traded 3-pointers until the Weevils hit their next five 3-pointers on a 17-0 run to take a 64-47 lead with 8:13 to go. Harding bounced back on a 14-2 run, and UAM held the spread around 10 as it coasted to the win.

Daniels shot 10 for 15 including 6 of 9 from behind the arc. Denzel McDuffey picked up his first double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and DaJuan Jones had 18 points for the Weevils.

Ramiro Santiago led the Bisons with 21 points and four assists, Romio Harvey had 14 points, seven rebounds and three assists, and Jordan West finished with 13 points.

The Weevils face Arkansas Tech on the road at 4 p.m. today. The Bisons travel to Arkadelphi­a to face Ouachita Baptist today at 4 p.m.

Reddies 82, Wonder Boys 78

ARKADELPHI­A — Henderson State failed to hit a single shot in the final seven minutes of Thursday’s game, but the team went 20 of 23 from the free throw line to stave off a late rally by Arkansas Tech at the Duke Wells Center.

The Reddies (2-3, 2-3 GAC) went on a 7-0 spurt to open the game en route to a 23-12 lead at the 10:45 mark. Raekwon Rogers put up 11 of those points, making his first five shots from the floor.

The Reddies struggled to shoot over the next six minutes,

allowing the Wonder Boys (3-3,

1-3) to hit a 16-3 run to take a 2826 lead with 4:41 to go. The Reddies, behind a pair of 3-pointers from Malik Riddle, bounced back to take a 41-38 lead into the second half.

HSU again had a strong start with a 19-9 run, but the Wonder Boys responded with an

8-0 spurt to pull within 60-55 with 10 minutes to go. The Reddies pushed out to as much as a

13-point lead twice, their final shot from the floor a 3-pointer by Damian Dear with 7:32 to go.

Rogers led all scorers with

22 points on 9-of-12 shooting with eight rebounds and four assists, Dear added 16 points with four assists and three steals, Riddle had 15 points and seven boards and Xavier Davenport tied a career-high with 11 points and five assists. Ceejay Mann led Arkansas Tech with 19 points and seven assists, Ke’Lyn Adams had 16, Tony Hall 13 and Cam Kennedy 12.

The Reddies face Southern Arkansas on the road today at 2 p.m. The Wonder Boys host UAM at 4 p.m.
