UUVC hosts Roussel during Insight service

Scharmel Roussel, executive director of Arkansas Interfaith Power and Light, will offer a 20-minute presentati­on on Climate Reality for Insight Sunday service at 11 a.m. Sunday by Zoom to the Unitarian Universali­st Village Church, followed by a question-and-answer session.

“Animated slides with graphs will offer informatio­n on climate trends worldwide with specific local Arkansas informatio­n. From a faith-based perspectiv­e, Ark. IPL focuses on energy efficiency, renewable energy, community gardens, plant-rich diets, and simple personal choices that impact the balance of fragile ecosystems,” a news release said. Roussel graduated with a B.A. from Hendrix College in Conway, followed by an M.A. in Organizati­onal Communicat­ion at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. She is a founding member of Arkansas Affiliate of Interfaith Power and Light in 2009. Roussel is a co-chair of the Arkansas Citizens First Congress from 2018 to the present. Her organizati­on, Arkansas Interfaith Power and Light, has been awarded several grants, including the EPA Environmen­tal Justice Small Grants, 2017-2018, 2019-2021; the USDA NRCS Office of Urban Agricultur­e and Innovative Production Grant, 2020-2021; the Climate Reality Environmen­tal Justice Award, 2020-2021; and Funding for Urban Agricultur­e Interns from the Arkansas Community Foundation, 2021.
