Negative minds

-

Dear editor:

As usual, Mr. Cherry in his harangue in the March 6 issue writes copious statements of untrue and half-true words and phrases in his defense of a past nonleader who himself was constantly screaming lies and half-truths.

Cherry has evidently forgotten about the various indictments that came from the Russian investigation. His claim that Democrats destroy freedom of speech is truly a laugh when it was Trump constantly endangering freedom of the press. His attack on Merrick Garland consists of suppositions about “taking our guns,” a common cry of the ultraright macho-thinking mob. His accusation that President Biden is allowing COVID-infected, illegal immigrants to be bused all over our country is imaginary. His claim that schools, churches and businesses are not open is simply untrue; they are open by COVID-19 rules.

The rest of his diatribe is so crazy space does not allow for a rebuttal. I wish Cherry would read the Doonesbury cartoon in the same March 6 issue. History often gets close to repeating itself. That cartoon demonstrates how many of Trump’s congressional supporters have stated that Trump has learned his lesson and that he will now retire quietly. Then a 1924 reprint from German media states that Hitler, who had been released from a Barbarian prison, would now give up politics and go home to Austria. Informed folk know that seven years later with his “Brown Shirts,” (Proud Boys is a contemporary parallel) Hitler was in power in Germany.

Perhaps such negative minds as Cherry’s should give attention to two articles in the same March 6 issue: (1) Page 1, showing a Hot Springs World Class High School student winning a Youth Challenge Award for her research in printing brain tumors, and (2) an article on Page 3C showing the Elks, who do a great deal of positive things for veterans and youths, lauding the Scouts for all their community service. We “liberals” love recognition of positive things being done, not just here, but all over our country. Our hope is in the youth of our great nation, and Arkansas youth prove strong examples of good and progressive actions, actions that just happen to carry out for our Lord taught us to do, extending mercy, justice and goodness to all.
