Dorothy J. M. and Jimmy L. Carden

-

On July 6, 1931, Dorothy Jean McGuire Carden was born in Bronte, Texas, to Alvis and Lurlyne McGuire. On Aug. 14,

1933, Jimmy Lynn Carden was born in Lonsdale, Ark., to Elmer and Ruby Carden. Dorothy Carden passed away on March

1, 2021, after a brave battle with COVID-19. Suffering from a broken heart, Jim Carden passed on March 13.

Dorothy and Jim met as young singles at East Dallas Baptist Church and soon began falling for each other. United in their love for each other and for the Lord, Dorothy and Jim married on April 17, 1964. They soon added three wonderful sons to their family — Mickey Lynn, Jon Stuart and Jimmy Marc. Early in life, Dorothy earned her degree at Baylor University and later helped move the Decatur Baptist College to Dallas, Texas, where it would become known as Dallas Baptist University. Meanwhile, Jim had developed into a serial entrepreneur in Dallas, working in secretarial and mailing services, several different restaurants and a variety of video stores. Dorothy then went on to take on the challenges of corporate America, working with Ernst & Whinney and with Jones Day for 20 years. Jim gave

33 years of service to the US Army Reserve and eventually retired as Command Sergeant Major of the 807th Medical Brigade in Seagoville, Texas.

Dorothy and Jim were both very proud of their accomplishments and lived their lives in service to God. Dorothy was both feisty and compassionate, grounded in faith and wisdom, and was the anchor of the Carden family. In her later years, she particularly enjoyed the pursuits of genealogy, service to the Daughters of the American Revolution, and making a warm home for her friends and family. Jim was kind and generous, thriving in his loving relationships with everyone around him. He enjoyed collecting coins and stamps, playing games with children such as Uno and chess, and going for peaceful walks. Christians both in faith and in practice, Dorothy and Jim are happy together in Heaven once again.

They are survived by their devoted son and daughter-inlaw, Marc and Kim Carden; their grandchildren, Culver and Sloan; and an abundance of friends and family everywhere from north to south. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 2350 Central Ave., Hot Springs, AR 71901. GrandDad and MeMe will be missed dearly by all those who knew them.
