At the recent virtual 107th United States Daughter of 1812 State Council, State President Kay Tatum recognized “special people for milestones or service,” a news release said.

Recognized were new members who joined in 2020: Mary Faye Coker, Ellen Elizabeth Cook, Caryn Kern Cosper, Olivia Jean Kucharzyk, Bobby Harlene Lovell, Jerri Margaret Taylor, Susan Kathleen Balkman, Nancy Lorrane Bartlett and Nonnie Lee Carroll. The new members were given their certificates and those in attendance were installed.

Membership milestone certificates were presented to members who have reached membership milestones: Frankie Ochsner for 35 years and Sheila Beatty-Krout for 25 years.

A Special Gift of Music for Veterans award was presented to Kim Bailey, Beatty-Krout, Mary Ellen Laursen and Belinda Jones for their work in acquiring guitars and pianos for the Eugene Towbin VA Medical Center in North Little Rock.

Christina Twardowski was given the “Most New Members” certificate as registrar of the Baseline-Meridian Chapter.

The Super Ambassador Award was given to Ochsner for her dedication in recognizing JROTC and ROTC Cadets over several years and persevering during the pandemic restrictions.

Member Arvetta Swift was named a Super Angel for her heroism in working as a nurse 60 hours a week in 2020 during the COVID-19 crisis.

A veteran of the military and an RN, Swift also serves as U.S.D. 1812 state registrar and the society’s VA Volunteer Services representative at the VA Medical Center in Fayetteville.

“As many health care workers did in 2020, she went above and beyond during the pandemic. She is descended from Thomas H. Flippin, a Veteran of the War of 1812 and founder of the town of Flippin in northwest Arkansas,” the release said.

The President’s Love and Devotion Award was given to Beatty-Krout by Tatum “in grateful appreciation for assistance, patriotism, support, generosity and kindness extended to her during her term as president.”

For support of the Arkansas Society during her term, Tatum also thanked Randall Freeman of the Newton Camp, Sons of Confederate Veterans, and Beverly Webb, General T.J. Churchill Chapter United Daughters of the Confederacy for partnering with U.S.D.
