Congressma­n to address county GOP

Four-term U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman, R-District 4, will be the main speaker during the monthly meeting of the Republican Party of Garland County at 6:30 p.m. April 8 at the First Church of the Nazarene, Family Center, 3804 Central Ave.

The event is free and the public is welcome to attend. The RPGC will not meet Thursday.

Mindy McAlindon, a candidate for the Republican Party of Arkansas national committeew­oman, will also speak on April 8.

Westerman was first elected to the U.S. House in 2014, succeeding Tom Cotton, now a U.S. senator.

Westerman, a lifelong resident of Hot Springs, was elected to the Arkansas House in 2010, where he served as majority leader.

Westerman is “known to support more responsive government, lower taxes, health care reform and advocating for conservati­ve values,” a news release said.

Westerman was valedictor­ian of Fountain Lake High School and a 1990 graduate of the University Arkansas in Fayettevil­le, where he played football for the Arkansas Razorbacks. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the U of A and a master’s degree in forestry from Yale University, in New Haven Connecticu­t.

He is married to Sharon Kay French Westerman and they have four children.

McAlindon, of Centerton, has served on the RPA executive board and finance chair and deputy treasurer. She is also secretary for the Benton County Republican Committee.

She has been involved with Republican women’s groups, and has worked on political campaigns and organized Reagan Day dinners.
