New officers elected at CD17C 97th State Conference

Members of the Arkansas Society Colonial Dames 17th Century recently held their annual conference both in-person and virtually via Zoom, and elected new officers for 2021-23.

New officers are President Patricia McLemore, Mount Ida; Vice President Sharon Stanley Wyatt, Pine Bluff; Chaplain Jerrie Townsend, Stuttgart; Recording Secretary Hannah Wells, Beebe; Correspond­ing Secretary Maralou Spear, Hot Springs Village; Organizing Secretary Sheila Beatty-Krout, Hot Springs Village; Treasurer Judy Robbins, Hot Springs Village; Historian Teresa Clark, North Little Rock and Historian Mary Jean Hall, Clinton.

The officers were installed by National President Nan Ackerman, of Virginia.

“The new officers are qualified to lead CD17C as all have held positions of responsibi­lity in other organizati­ons such as the Daughters of the American Revolution, United Daughters of the Confederac­y, United States Daughters of 1812 and Daughters of the American Colonists,” a news release said.

McLemore has been an Arkansas resident since 1965, moving from Michigan to Mena then to Little Rock. She holds a BS degree from John Brown University, Siloam Springs, and retired from the Arkansas Department of Human Services with 38 years of service as the DHS program administra­tor, Contract Support Section, for the Office of Finance and Administra­tion. She and her husband, Charles, who is also a genealogis­t, live in Mount Ida.

McLemore succeeds Linda Vandenberg White as state president and will govern the four chapters located throughout the state.

Membership is open to any woman 18 years of age or older through birthparen­ts or adopted parents if there is a blood relationsh­ip to the applicant and is the lineal descendant of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the Original Colonies in the geographic­al area of the present United States of America. “Lineal descendant shall mean direct legal blood descendant,” the release said.
