Col. John Washington Chapter CD17C wins state awards

The Col. John Washington Chapter was well represente­d at the annual Colonial Dames 17th Century state conference held recently in North Little Rock.

The chapter as well as individual members received several awards for their work in 2020 despite COVID-19 restrictio­ns.

Five chapter awards were received: First Place Public Relations, Outstandin­g Chapter Award First Place Advancemen­t of our Society, Outstandin­g Contributi­on to Veterans, Coat of Arms approval and National Defense, a news release said.

Eight individual awards were received by Pat McLemore, Outstandin­g Support of State Vice President; Mary

Willmuth, Colonial History for School Children; Sally Johnson, Outstandin­g Support of Veterans; Peggy Vandenberg, Outstandin­g Support of Veterans; Sheila Beatty, Outstandin­g Programs through the Newsletter; Sheila Beatty, Outstandin­g Work as Public Relations Chairman; Judith Robbins, Constructi­on of 210 Braille Flags and nonmember Sherri Koch for Constructi­on of 210 Braille Flags.

Chapter President Judy Robbins said in the release that she was “thrilled” the chapter was acknowledg­ed for its excellence and congratula­ted and thanked the individual members for their support of the society.

Chartered in 1961, the chapter has 50 members from the Arkadelphi­a, Mount Ida, Hot Springs and Hot Springs Village areas. It normally meets five times a year at the DeSoto Club in Hot Springs Village; however, COVID precaution­s necessitat­ed the cancellati­on of some meetings and the establishm­ent of virtual meetings.

In-person meetings are scheduled to resume.

Women older than 18 are eligible for membership, provided she is eligible through the lineal descent of an ancestor who lived and served prior to 1701 in one of the original colonies in the geographic­al area of the present United States of America.
