Secretary of State candidate, state senator guests at GC Republican meeting Thursday
State Rep. Mark Lowery, a Republican candidate for Secretary of State, and state Sen. Alan Clark, R-District 13, will be the speakers at the monthly meeting of the Republican Party of Garland County on Thursday.
The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the conference center at RPGC headquarters at 615 W. Grand Ave. The free event is open to the public.
For more information about the meeting and membership, visit http://www. TheRPGC.org or call Jim Keary, RPGC secretary, at 501-786-9206 or email jlkeary@gmail.com.
Lowery will face incumbent Secretary of State John Thurston in the Republican primary in May 2022.
Lowery, of Maumelle, was the chief of staff for Mike Huckabee when he served as lieutenant governor in the mid-1990s. Lowery is serving a fifth term in the Arkansas House. He represents
District 39.
He has served as chairman of the House Insurance and Commerce Committee, the Arkansas Legislative Council, the Joint Performance Review Committee and the House Education Committee.
“Lowery claims that Thurston had not been a defender of election integrity and ensuring the protection of the state Capitol, allowing graffiti to be painted on its grounds during demonstrations. The secretary of state is the state’s chief election official and maintains the Capitol building,” the RPGC said in a news release.
Clark will discuss upcoming legislative issues and details of the special legislative session.
The RPGC normally meets on the first Thursday of every month in the conference center at its headquarters at 615 W. Grand Ave. Information on membership and voter registration will be provided.
