Junior Rams rout Maumelle

Lakeside’s freshman and eighth-grade football teams allowed a single touchdown between both games as the junior Rams cruised to a 35-8 win over Maumelle and the eighth-grade Rams earned a 36-0 shutout.

Ryan Ballard scored first for the junior Rams (2-0) with a single-yard run with 4:08 left in the opening quarter with Denver Davidson’s kick splitting the uprights.

“Our offensive line, Parker Chunn, Miles Macon, Hudson Shafto, Elliott Lockwood, Walker Delong and Elijah Witherspoo­n had a great night up front for us,” said head coach Chris Brock.

Ballard found Ben Vincent on a 17-yard pass with 2:05 left in the quarter for a 14-0 lead after Davidson’s kick. Ballard broke free for a 23-yard touchdown run, and Zakk Haywood ran it in from the 2 for a 28-0 lead after Grady Ohman scored the 2-point conversion following Haywood’s score.

Ohman scored the junior Rams’ final touchdown with 1:30 left in the second on a 3-yard run with Davidson kicking the extra point. The mercy rule was enacted for the entire second half, and Maumelle scored with two minutes remaining in the game.

Ballard was 7-for-7 passing for 107 yards and had two carries for 24 yards. Luke Lumsden had two catches for 32 yards, and Ohman led the defense with seven tackles while Britton Diaz and Joseph Newman had six tackles apiece.

In the eighth-grade game, Wally Wolcott found Drew Morgan on a 10-yard pass with 4:10 left in the first quarter with Beau Brock running the ball in on the conversion. Walcott connected with Morgan again on a 9-yard toss with 5:15 left in the second quarter for a 14-0 lead after the failed conversion attempt.

in the half, and Wolcott had a 40-yard completion to Burns with 34 seconds left for a 28-0 halftime lead.

Wolcott hit Brock from 6 yards out with 3:43 left in the third, and he connected with Javarius Russell on the conversion play to take a 36-0 lead and set the clock in motion under the mercy rule.

Wolcott was 10-for-14 passing for 208 yards and five touchdowns. Morgan had five catches for 75 yards and two scores, Brock had four receptions for 75 yards and two scores, and Burns scored once with two receptions for 58 yards.

Luke Wrublesky, Kavan Morgan and Decklan Mckinney each had 5 tackles to lead the defense.

“Our offensive line of Tucker Arnold, Tucker Young, Cannon Martin, Carter Lock and Jagger Janske also played really well,” Brock said.

Both teams travel to Arkadelphi­a Thursday.
