Phillip R. Sheffield
Phillip R. Sheffield, 84, of Hot Spring, Ark., passed away Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2021. He was born Sept. 28, 1936, in Hot Springs, to the late Jack and Freda Baxter Sheffield. He was a retired electrical engineer, and a very proud United States Marine Veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Katie Sheffield; children, Erin (Bob) Wood, Diana Sheffield, Jack Sheffield and Sabrina Anderson; 10 grandchildren, Henry (Ryan) Dust, Russell Dust, Nicole Neil, Moira Sheffield, Charles Williams, Kaleb Williams, Catherine Williams, Sebastian Williams, Phillip Sheffield and Makayla Sheffield; and several great-grandchildren.
Phillip had an accelerating career for such companies as Hughes and Lockheed Martin, working on government contracts, helping with the designs for the antennas for the Apollo spacecraft’s and 747 airplanes among others. He had accepted a contract with the United States Government to work overseas for many years in England and in Germany. He was instrumental in the designing and operation of the highest levels of communication satellites for the government in protecting the United States. As a civilian, he held one of the highest military ranking positions and received many awards and Letters of Accommodation from some of the highest-ranking government officials. He traveled the world, and was able to meet so many fascinating people, and had some of the most exciting stories.
He retired from Lockheed Martin and settled down in his hometown of Hot Springs, where he met and married the love of his life.
Even with all his accomplishments, the one thing he was the most proud of in his life was being a Marine, and as a Marine he loved his Country.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Monday Sept. 13, with full military honors by VFW post 10483 and American Legion Post 123.
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. today, Sept. 12, at Hot Springs Funeral Home.
