Junior Rams pick up two wins over Scrappers

The Lakeside freshman Rams beat Nashville 47-29 to improve to 5-0 on the season, and the eighth grade team picked up a 45-23 win over the Scrappers to improve to a 3-0 record.

River Cook led the freshman Rams with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Sloan Hayes chipped in 11 points, and Luke Lumsden added 8 of his own. Ty Braziel contribute­d 5 points, while Maddex Ritter scored 4. Taylor Willis and Sam Trusty rounded out the scoring for the ninth grade Rams with 3 points each.

Beau Brock led the eighth grade Rams with 13 points, and Ja’Various Russell tallied 11. Tucker Young added 7 points for Lakeside.

HOT SPRINGS RUNNERS EARN TOP 20 MARATHON FINISHES

LITTLE ROCK — Runners from across the country competed in the Little Rock Marathon Saturday, and two Hot Springs participan­ts registered top 20 finishes.

Joseph Hoch, a runner from Stoughton, Wisconsin, won the marathon in 2 hours, 49 minutes and 18.53 seconds.

Hot Springs’ Taylor Werst (3:12:14.68) finished 15th, and the Spa City’s Bradley Oswalt (3:15:13.28) came in 18th.

In the half marathon, Garland County had a third place finisher in Lake Hamilton’s Zeke McCain (1:17:43.01). McCain’s time was just around six minutes behind Cameron Beckett (1:11:26.59), the winner from Little Rock.

Hot Springs’ Connor Ashley notched a seventh place finish in the 10K race with a time of 42:44.57. Arkansas’ Benjamin Kimathi (35:59.31) won the 10K event.

GAC ANNOUNCES BASKETBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

RUSSELLVIL­LE — East Central’s Madison Rehl picked up women’s basketball player of the week honors, and Southeaste­rn Oklahoma State’s Jett Sternberge­r won men’s basketball player of the week.

Rehl averaged 16 points per game in East Central’s season-opening wins over Texas Woman’s and Arkansas-Fort Smith. She became the 14th player in program history to score 1,000 career points during her performanc­e against UAFS.

Sternberge­r broke both the school and conference record for points in a game when the sophomore scored 55 points in SEOSU’s win against Arlington Baptist. The Savage Storm’s record had not been broken for 64 years.

During the record-breaking performanc­e, Sternberge­r went 12-for-18 on 3-pointers, and the 12 he made set another school record and tied the GAC’s single game record.
