A local woman was arrested on a felony battery charge Wednesday after allegedly attacking her 12-year-old daughter, punching her multiple times in the face.

Jennifer Annette Johnson, 37, of 505 Bower St., was taken into custody at her residence and charged with a felony count of second-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct, punishable by up to 30 days in jail.

Johnson, who lists no prior criminal history, remained in custody Thursday on a zero bond and is set to appear today in Garland County District Court.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly before 4 p.m. Wednesday, Hot Springs police Officers Shane Lewis and Jacob Palmer responded to a possible battery at the Bower Street residence and upon arrival could hear a woman, later identified as Johnson, “yelling from inside the house.”

Officers then made contact with the female victim, 12, who said Johnson had been yelling at her, saying, “I wish you had never been born” and “I should have killed you when you were younger.”

She said Johnson then punched her in the face numerous times.

Officers spoke to a male witness, 20, who lives in the house, who said the youngest of Johnson’s children had got his attention and brought him to the front area of the house where he saw Johnson holding the victim by her hair and striking her twice in the face.

Johnson emerged from the residence and reportedly told officers she did not strike the victim in the face.

Officers noted the victim had red marks on her right cheek and “the beginning of swelling in both eyes.”
