- STEVEN MROSS

A local man was arrested on felony and misdemeanor charges Tuesday evening after he allegedly broke into a woman’s house and stole her cellphone in front of a witness.

Dakotah Dylan Gautreaux, 30, who lists a Grissom Trail address, was taken into custody shortly before 6 p.m. and charged with a felony count of residential burglary, punishable by up to 20 years in prison, and a misdemeanor count of second-degree criminal mischief, punishable by up to 60 days in jail.

Gautreaux was being held on a $5,750 bond and was set to appear Wednesday in Garland County District Court. According to court records, Gautreaux lists no prior felony history but had multiple misdemeanor convictions for criminal trespass and public intoxication.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after 5 p.m. Tuesday, Hot Springs police Officer James Moore was dispatched to a residence in the 2500 block of Malvern Avenue regarding a burglary.

He made contact with a juvenile female resident who stated when she arrived home, her uncle, identified as Gautreaux, was inside the house. She noted the front door frame of the house had been damaged.

She said she told Gautreaux to leave and he did, but while walking out he allegedly grabbed a cellphone from a living room table and took it with him.

Officers located Gautreaux near the corner of Golf Links Road and Malvern Avenue and detained him. They noted he had two cellphones in his possession. The officers then made contact with the owner of the residence from earlier and asked her to call the cellphone that was allegedly stolen.

She did and one of the cellphones Gautreaux had in his possession began to ring. Moore then confirmed it was the owner on the phone and she stated Gautreaux was not allowed in her residence and has never lived there.

At that point, Gautreaux was taken into custody without incident. The affidavit notes damages to the door were estimated at $100 and the value of the allegedly stolen phone was $780.
